Pembroke Welsh Corgis have a dense double coat that sheds year-round in Florida's climate at a rate that surprises new Corgi owners. The coat has two functional layers: a weather-resistant outer coat and a thick, soft undercoat that sheds continuously. Biscuit's appointment began with a high-velocity blow-out session to separate the loose undercoat from the guard coat, followed by undercoat rake work on the ruff, haunches, and undercarriage — the areas with the densest undercoat. A de-shedding bath and final blow-dry extracted the last of the loose material. We do not shave Corgis. The double coat manages Florida's heat more effectively when intact than when shaved. Six-week professional de-shedding intervals recommended.
Before
Biscuit arrived with a heavy double coat shedding extensively — the Corgi undercoat releasing in large clumps, ruff and haunches particularly dense with accumulated coat.
After
Biscuit left after a thorough de-shedding treatment — undercoat volume dramatically reduced, guard coat laying flat, the foxy Corgi silhouette clearly defined.

Corgis in stressful situations — moving, new family members, travel — often experience stress-induced shedding that temporarily exceeds their normal rate. Winston's recent move had triggered a heavy shed cycle, with undercoat accumulating at the haunches and chest faster than at a typical six-week appointment. We extended the de-shedding session by 20 minutes to address the additional volume. A calming lavender-scented bath was used to help reduce the residual stress response during the appointment. Winston was notably calmer after the bath phase — a pattern we observe regularly. The calming bath and thorough de-shed addressed both the physical and stress-related aspects of Winston's presentation.
Before
Winston arrived with heavy undercoat accumulation at the haunches and under the chest — shedding significantly more than usual due to stress from a recent move.
After
Haunch and chest undercoat cleared thoroughly. De-shedding treatment applied across the full coat. Winston lighter and more comfortable.

Corgi maintenance de-shedding at five weeks is more efficient than waiting for full accumulation to develop. Rosie's five-week appointment removed accumulating undercoat that was still in the loose phase — responding readily to the dryer and rake without the extended time needed at seven or eight weeks. Inter-digital fur was trimmed to prevent debris accumulation between the paw pads — a Corgi-specific issue given their active, low-to-ground lifestyle. Ear cleaning performed. Bath with de-shedding shampoo and blow-dry. Total time: 80 minutes. Regular five to six week maintenance appointments represent the most cost-effective approach for Corgi owners in Central Florida.
Before
Rosie was five weeks out — undercoat beginning to accumulate again, paws with some inter-digital fur buildup, ears needing attention.
After
Moderate de-shed, paw inter-digital fur trimmed, ears cleaned. Rosie's shedding reset for another five weeks.
